LESSON INFO

Audience

  • Schedulers and planners who create or update schedule items in the Scheduling screen.
  • Operations leads who need to adjust scheduled work locations and required time windows during the day.

Prerequisites

  • You can access Scheduling from the top menu.
  • You have a role that includes Update Schedule Item (Schedule Item Creator or Schedule Item Editor).
  • You understand which Facility and Work Location you are responsible for scheduling against.

Skills you’ll build

  • You can find a schedule item in Timeline view using filters, and open its edit form.
  • You can reschedule a schedule item by adjusting Required Start Time and Required End Time (and/or Required Minutes), and save changes.
  • You can switch between Timeline and Grid views and use the best view for the task.
  • You can change a schedule item’s Work Location safely and confirm whether the change creates a time-slot conflict.
  • You can verify that linked records (Receiving Order, Shipping Order) remain correctly linked after rescheduling.

LESSON OUTLINE

Concept

  • Rescheduling is updating a schedule item’s planned window and/or work location on the Scheduling screen.
  • Schedule items can be reviewed in Timeline view (visual calendar) and Grid view (tabular).
  • A schedule item can be linked to an order or freight bill. When linked, the Carrier Information section is populated from the linked record and becomes read-only.

Before you move anything

  1. Open Scheduling.
  2. Use the view toggle to select the best working mode:
    • Use Timeline when you are adjusting time windows visually.
    • Use Grid when you need to search, filter, or confirm identifiers.
  3. Set filters to your working context:
    • Facility
    • Work Area (if used)
    • Work Location
    • Optional: Status, Schedule Item Type, Schedule Item ID, and a date/time range.
  4. Confirm you can see the target schedule item.

Reschedule in Timeline view (quick change)

  1. Switch to Timeline view.
  2. Locate the schedule item.
  3. Open the Edit Schedule Item form by selecting the record.
  4. Update only what you need:
    • Required Start Time and Required End Time.
    • Or, adjust Required Minutes.
  5. Select Save & Close.
  6. Confirm the event renders in the new time slot.

Reschedule in the Edit Schedule Item form

  1. Open the schedule item’s Edit Schedule Item form.
  2. In Schedule Item Details, confirm required fields have values:
    • Facility (required)
    • Work Location (required)
    • Description (required)
    • Schedule Item Type (required)
  3. Make one change at a time, then Save (optional) or Save & Close:
    • Adjust Required Start Time / Required End Time.
    • Adjust Required Minutes.
    • Change Work Location.
    • Update Notes.
    • Update Actual Information timestamps when your workflow uses them.
  4. When you change Work Location, Schedule Item Type, or any required time field, review any time-slot conflict prompt:
    • If a conflict list appears, review the listed schedule item IDs and decide whether to proceed.

Verification

  1. If the schedule item is linked, open the relevant tab to confirm the linkage still looks correct:
    • Receiving Order
    • Shipping Order
  2. If your operation uses marshalling, confirm the schedule item still appears where dispatchers expect:
    • It can be opened from Marshalling (Arrived/Marshalled grids open the Scheduling edit form).
  3. If your site uses the Scanner App, confirm the updated event details are visible in the Scanner App’s Schedule view.

COMMON ISSUES

    • Likely cause

      • Your permission group only includes View Schedule Item.

      • The record sections are disabled because you do not have “Schedule” permission.

    • Checks

      • Confirm your permission group contains Schedule Item Creator or Schedule Item Editor.

    • Fix

      • Contact an admin to request the Update Schedule Item permission for your role.

    • Likely cause

      • Your current filters no longer match the item’s updated Facility, Work Location, or time window.

    • Checks

      • Re-check Facility and Work Location filters.

      • Expand the date/time window.

      • Use the toggle to switch to Grid view and filter by Schedule Item ID.

    • Fix

      • Update filters to match the new work location and time window.

    • Likely cause

      • Your change overlaps another schedule item in the same Work Location where Actual End Time is not set.

    • Checks

      • Review the listed schedule item IDs.

      • Confirm whether the overlap is acceptable for your operation.

    • Fix

      • Choose a different time window or a different work location.

      • If the conflict is acceptable, proceed only after confirming operational impact with the team.

    • Likely cause

      • The schedule item is linked to an Order or Freight Bill.

        • When linked, Carrier Information is prepopulated and read-only.

    • Checks

      • Confirm whether the schedule item is linked (Receiving Order, Shipping Order).

    • Fix

      • If the order is improperly linked, use Unlink Order (from the Edit Schedule Item form) and then re-link correctly.

    • Symptoms

      • Save prompts you to fill required fields, and keeps your inputs on the form.

    • Likely cause

      • One of these required fields is blank: Facility, Work Location, Description, Schedule Item Type.

    • Checks

      • Review the Schedule Item Details section for required fields.

    • Fix

      • Populate the missing required field(s), then save again.
